Plante
Green tea
Camellia sinensis · 녹차 (Nokcha)
Korean green tea — mainly grown in Boseong and Hadong, on misty terraces that produce the leaves richest in catechins in the world. Applied to the skin, it is an antioxidant shield: EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), polyphenols and L-theanine form a scientifically validated anti-aging cocktail.
Type de peau
Combination, oily, pollution-exposed, tired skin, first wrinkles.
Concentration
Recommended concentration: 1 to 5% of extract standardized in EGCG (5% typical).
Compatibilité
Excellent with: vitamin C, niacinamide, fermented rice, hyaluronic acid. Avoid with: peroxides.
Bénéfices sur la peau
- Powerful antioxidant protection (free-radical scavenging)
- Soothing of irritations
- Sebum regulation (combination/oily skin)
- Anti-aging (cellular DNA protection)
- Natural mattifying effect
- Reduction of under-eye puffiness (vasoconstriction)
Comment ça agit, scientifiquement
EGCG inhibits the metalloproteinase MMP-1 — the enzyme that destroys collagen under UV exposure. The polyphenols neutralize free radicals before they damage cellular DNA. The caffeine present causes a slight vasoconstriction (decongesting effect on the eye area).
Tradition coréenne
Histoire et usage ancestral
Tea arrived in Korea in the 9th century via Buddhist monks returning from China. Under Joseon, the tea ceremony became a codified art, and chilled tea water became a facial care ritual among the nobility. Peasant women in Hadong used the steeped leaves as a compress for sunburns.
