Betaine
Betaina (de Beta vulgaris) · 베타인
A natural osmoprotectant extracted from beetroot, capable of preserving the osmotic balance of cells in a dehydrated environment. Betaine is one of the most discreet but most useful 'comfort' ingredients in Korean cosmetics: it softens, humectants, and improves the sensoriality of every formula.
Type de peau
All skin types, particularly reactive, intolerant, dehydrated skin.
Concentration
Recommended concentration: 0.5 to 3% in formulation.
Compatibilité
Universally compatible: stabilizes formulations with retinol, AHA, vitamin C, etc.
Bénéfices sur la peau
- Deep, long-lasting hydration
- Softening and soothing effect
- Cell protection in a dehydrated environment
- Improved sensoriality (soft texture)
- Stabilization of other actives in formulation
- Reduced tingling linked to strong actives
Comment ça agit, scientifiquement
Betaine is a compatible solute: it accumulates in cells to balance osmotic pressure without interfering with their metabolism. It stabilizes proteins and membranes under water stress, resulting in more comfortable and less reactive skin.

Histoire et usage ancestral
