Le mécanisme
Allantoin stimulates the cellular proliferation of fibroblasts and increases keratinocyte migration — accelerating healing. It also has an osmotic hydrating effect and a mild keratolytic effect (removal of dead cells).
Tradition ancestrale
Identified in 1799 in the allantoid fluid of cow fetuses (hence its name). Synthesized from 1920. Used in cosmetics since 1950 — one of the best-studied and most universally tolerated 'comfort' ingredients.
