Bamboo carbonized at very high temperature becomes an ultra-porous charcoal capable of absorbing up to 200 times its weight in impurities. Used for centuries in Asia to purify water, in cosmetics it becomes the ingredient of COSRX and numbuzin detoxifying cleansers.

Bamboo charcoal activated by firing at 800°C develops an extremely large specific-surface micro-porous structure (up to 700 m²/g). These micropores trap, by physical adsorption, molecules of oxidized sebum, bacteria and pollution.

Histoire et usage ancestral
Used in China and Japan for 1,500 years to purify water (binchotan). Its spread to the West as a cosmetic ingredient dates from the 2010s, popularized by K-beauty and Japanese brands.
